The food security system is a key focus of government planners, who emphasize on the flow of major food commodities to the population. This project considers the semi-total local dependence on importing almost 95% of the nutritional needs of the population. So, the project presents solutions to enhance food security through the use of modern technology especially with respect to protected agriculture, aquaculture, use of renewable energy resources and treated sewage in various facilities and constructions to determine production models of various food commodities for agricultural production, which was developed mainly at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research as well as using scientific research outputs in similar environments, in addition to giving special attention to agricultural production models for various food commodities by creating sustainable economic model farms.

The project aims to build a fully integrated complex for developing local economic production of fish and shrimp using latest technologies. The complex will include: specialized buildings for the production of marketable of fish and shrimp, other support buildings such as laboratories, miscellaneous stores, administration building, electrical and mechanical workshops, staff accommodation, power generators, beach wells, large sea water tanks, fodder factory, fish-handling plant, cleaning and packaging, a mosque, a mini club and a parking lot. The project aims to promote participation of the private sector in the production; provide fresh fish to the local market and support local food security

The establishing of a specialized research unit for urban greening and the development of desert areas will consolidate the efforts for the conservation of natural resources and improving the landscaping and development of desert systems in Kuwait under one umbrella. The project aims to create a research unit using the “leadership concept in energy and environmental designs" to support research and studies on sustainable design perspective. Additionally, the project will establish a “pilot nursery” for the production of selected landscape plants and agricultural products, creating pilot gardens that showcase urban greening methods using sustainable desert perspective designs that will contribute to the improved use of both local and adaptive plants for the conservation of natural resources and reducing water consumption; The project will develop and showcase sustainable and environment-friendly production concepts, as well as the dissemination of concepts for the protection of desert ecosystems in order to transfer them to the local agricultural sector, and assist in the implementation of strategies for the rehabilitation of degraded lands and the preservation of biodiversity in Kuwait, improving the quality of the urban and desert environment by studying new methods in perspective design and protecting ecosystems. The project will work to develop national manpower and expand laboratory and field research facilities and providing advanced technologies

1. Develop agricultural sector and improve the production

The project aims to implement, build and establish a national research unit for marine science and to manage the unit’s resources. The unit shall serve as a specialized, integrated center for the documentation, assessment and protection of the seas, as well as an official technical research center to support decision makers with regard to the marine environment and to provide evidence-based formation for policy development. The unit will engage in integrated research of physical, chemical and biological oceanography, marine climatology, use of satellite technologies in oceanography, and the assessment of the fish stocks, the fisheries, marine biodiversity, as well as the management of data and information systems of oceanography and fisheries.

The construction of the Al-Shdadiya Industrial Area on an area of 5 sq. km. using the Design and Build system and provide it with infrastructure and support services. The project aims to resolve the issue of limited availability of land plots for industrial projects, while meeting the needs of investors for industrial lands. The project provides 1036 industrial plots the area of each plot to range from 1000 sq. to 10,000 sq. and will build 3 plants for the treatment of industrial waste, in addition to one station for the treatment of sewage waste for irrigation purposes. This fully-integrated industrial zone will basically contribute to the infrastructure that is necessary to support the doing business environment and to help accelerate the non-oil industrial manufacturing so it contribute to the country’s GDP as well as creating jobs and SMEs opportunities for national manpower.
